The First Batch of World Vision's Relief Items have Arrived at Wuyuan County, Jiangxi Province

 (July 15 2020) The first batch of relief items provided by World Vision has successfully arrived at Wuyuan County, Jiangxi Province. The relief items include 1000 quilts, 300 family kits, 100 child-friendly kits and 100 hygiene kits. World Vision will be sending these items to help those affected by the floods.

On July 11, World Vision, with the support from the Department of Civil Affairs of Jiangxi Province, Jiangxi Overseas Non-governmental Administration Office, Jiangxi Charity Federation and the local government departments of Wuyuan County, was able to send an assessment team to Dazhangshan Township, Qinghua Township and Sikou Township in Wuyuan County to assess and understand the flood situation. After learning about the needs to those affected, World Vision decided to send relief items to these disaster-hit areas.

▲ Hygiene kits provided by World Vision consist of much needed personal sanitation items such as toothpaste, toothbrush, towel and soap. The family kits consist of items that a family would need for their everyday use, such as mosquito nets, food containers, utensils, flashlight, bucket, wok and steamer.

▲ World Vision also cares of the needs of children. Child-friendly kits which have toys that children would enjoy playing with such as dolls, skipping ropes, balls and board games were prepared. These child-friendly kits would help children recover from the traumatic experience they have been through.

As of July 11, the floods have impacted a total of 10 prefectural-level cities including Nanchang, Jingdezhen, Jiujiang and Shangrao, and 98 county-level divisions including Ganjiang New District. Over 5 million people are affected and 4 people have lost their lives. 405,000 people were evacuated from their homes while 154,000 people need emergency relief assistance. 443,400 hectares of farmland are affected, causing a loss of 68,600 hectares of crops. In addition, 859 houses that belong to 371 families have collapsed. The floods have caused a direct economic loss of RMB6.02 billion. When the disaster happened, the government and local government departments acted quickly to begin flood relief and rehabilitation work.

World Vision is working to obtain more funding to meet the needs of those affected.
